Barcelona, Spain – a city rich in culture, history and life. This was the location of a rewards trip for a group of Swanlea sixth form students who performed exceedingly well in their AS exams. Many have already received university offers from some of the top Russell Group universities.
The trip had two primary objectives; first a cultural experience and education, the second an academic purpose. The group were fortunate enough to visit the Sagrada Familia (a large Roman Catholic church that is an UNESCO World Hertiage Site) and the Nou Camp, the largest football stadium in Spain and home to one of the most iconic football clubs in the world, FC Barcelona. These two visits opened up the minds of the students to a whole new cultural experience. They were also taken on a beautiful boat ride around Spain’s third largest port. The purpose of this visit was to help students taking the A2 economics course by exposing them to the practical elements of the economics of trade and job creation. In addition to this, the students visited the Super Computing Centre to explore the different ways that data is used. The opportunity to visit another city allowed a unique learning experience that goes beyond the pages of a textbook.

This trip benefitted the sixth form students culturally and academically, giving them the amazing chance to explore a city beyond their own borders.
