Swanlea Year 7 Students Celebrate Literacy Success

Year 7 students at Swanlea have plenty to celebrate after making fantastic progress in reading this year. As part of the school’s literacy celebration, we are recognising the hard work, determination and enthusiasm shown by students both in school and at home.

An impressive 80% of Year 7 students have increased their reading age, highlighting the positive impact of regular reading and Swanlea’s commitment to developing strong literacy skills. This achievement reflects the dedication of our students, the encouragement of staff, and the support of families.

To recognise this outstanding success, students enjoyed a well-deserved pizza party to celebrate their achievements. It was a fun way to reward their hard work while encouraging everyone to continue developing a love of reading.

We have also seen a significant increase in the number of students reading at home. Regular reading outside the classroom helps to improve vocabulary, comprehension, confidence and creativity, while supporting learning across every subject.

Looking ahead to the summer holidays, many Year 7 students have already signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge. Students who complete the challenge will be rewarded when they return to Swanlea in September, recognising their commitment to keeping up their reading over the break.

At Swanlea, we believe that strong literacy skills are the foundation for success in education and beyond. Reading opens doors to new ideas, develops critical thinking, and builds the confidence students need for the future. We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 students for their achievements and look forward to seeing them continue to grow as confident, enthusiastic readers.
